Or they point out the popularity of the book in the liberal northeast as a sign of its limited appeal But even a Margaret Wente must realize that her attitude will be more difficult to maintain when we reach levels of inequality found in 18th and 19th century Europe. Piketty's book is so thoroughly researched that even if someone were to attempt to "take him down" (which no one has properly really tried to do yet) it would take a great deal of research and understanding. So far all attempts at discrediting Piketty (including the Wall Street Journal) has consisted of little more than name-calling. I suggest that Piketty is the first significant academic heavy-weight of a genuine paradigm shift. This shift began sometime ago but Piketty is one of the bell-weather movers and shakers of this shift that will change everything.
